Immersive Space Control : An Interactive Art and Learning Experience
Engage in a unique installation where art meets education. Users interact with a curved space, manipulating a central controller to alter time and location via an intuitive UI. This blend of physical and digital exploration offers a hands-on approach to understanding spatial dynamics, making it both an artistic experience and a learning journey.
To facilitate user immersion and engagement in the space, the GUI surface is composed using projectors that cast onto two distinct surfaces: a video mapping onto a curved screen (positioned at the top) and a cone screen (located at the bottom).
Additionally, a Physical User Interface enabling spiral image mapping control is centrally installed within the space, enhancing the interactive experience.
Set up a room for overwhelming senses of the universe and the earth. The two screens are for users to be more realistically controlling and realizing their own movements in between the two visually astonishing spaces.
01) Screen
While a curved screen (shown on the top) and a cone screen (shown on the bottom) provide stereoscopic views, the boundary line in-between becomes the standard of horizon and image substitution which adds the sense of going up and down.
FInding the optimal size of screens to have the maximum overwhelm.
02) Moon Calendar and Clock
A calendar and clock fixed at the upper right provide feedback on the user's control and current spatial information.
Set up any room for an immersive senses of the earth and universe.
The two screens give users realistically control over navigation through multiple astonishing spaces.
01 Prototype
Built a steering gear to implement the concept of navigating the universe similar to the sea.
Navigate one’s location in-between the earth and the space
Pull up the steering gear to move towards the space, and push it down to move back to the earth.
Control the speed of time
One day is equivalent to 48 seconds in real-time. Turn the steering gear to the left to slow it down, and turn right to fast forward.
Arduino & Gyro Sensor
Given the speed of time as input data, it adjusts the tempo of the videos by reading yaw values which indicate the rotation angles of the steering gear.
02 Problems
Built a steering gear to implement the concept of navigating the universe similar to the sea.
03 Solutions
Made a control panel that seemed to be a part of an actual space ship, and constructed a simple UI by manipulating the buttons.
